AMD Claims PS5 and Xbox Series X Launch Won’t Be Delayed by COVID-19
Analyst firms have predicted that the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X would be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly due to manufacturing plants having to be closed down temporarily. While representative from their respective companies have denied this, AMD has also stepped in to strengthen the claims.
During a recent earnings call, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su mentioned:
We expect semi-custom revenue to increase in the second quarter and be heavily weighted towards the second half of the year as we ramp production to support the holiday launches of the new PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X consoles.
In case you might be confused, AMD is the on providing the CPU and GPU for both the PS5 and Xbox Series X. With them ramping up chip production, it appears that we can definitely expect both next-gen consoles to launch in time for Holiday 2020. As for whether there would be enough supply or if it will be in limited stock only, that is yet to be seen.

Microsoft has recently tweeted that they would be showing off some Xbox Series X gameplay. It will be taking place on 7th May 2020 at 8AM PT / 11PM Malaysia time (GMT+8). It will be interesting to see how big of a leap it will be compared to the Xbox One, and even the Xbox One X. For now, we will just have to wait and see.
Pokdepinion: I think even if stock will be limited at launch, they will periodically resupply so more and more people can get their hands on the console. I’m just hoping the resupply would be consistent enough.
