PlayStation 5 Officially Revealed With Two Different Versions Coming And They Look Amazing

With the PS5 expected to push the limits of gaming, there have been many debates online on whether gamers should stick to 4K or lower resolutions for higher frame rates. If you’re planning to game on 1440p, this is something you need to take note of.

According to a recent report by IGN Italy, Sony representatives have confirmed that the PS5 will not have native 1440p support. This doesn’t mean that you can’t use 1440p displays however as it will either be upscaled Full HD or downscaled 4K resolution.

If you primarily game on TVs, this wouldn’t matter to you as you’d typically only find Full HD and 4K resolution TVs nowadays. If you’re using a gaming monitor, it’s a different story as there are plenty of 1440p options, which sits nicely between the aforementioned resolutions.

Previously, there were hints by BenQ which suggested that the PS5 will have support for 1440p gaming. In this particular case, they would be mistaken but perhaps a future software update could add native 1440p support. Given that the Xbox Series X / S can play games at 1440p natively, it’s interesting that the PS5 can’t do the same.

The PlayStation 5 is set to launch on 12th November 2020 for selected countries, and 19th November 2020 for the rest of the world. There are a number of countries, particularly in Southeast Asia, where the launch date is still uncertain. We will update more on this as soon as information becomes available so stay tuned.

Pokdepinion: Well, it’s not really a surprise given how they put more emphasis on Full HD and 4K. I do hope the option is still there, and it’s downscaled 4K rather than upscaled Full HD for better visuals.
