This Could Be The 2018 Apple iPhone

The folks over at KGI Securities recently released their 2018 iPhone product mix forecast. In said forecast, reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted 2 new form factors to come next year. Interestingly, KGI Securities is predicting that Apple will be introducing 2 new display sizes for their smartphones next year in OLED and LCD.

With the 5.8-inch OLED iPhone X that we have now, KGI is predicting that Apple will be bringing a 6.5-inch OLED iPhone, which is most likely the Plus variant for a similar type of offering as the iPhone X, along with a 6.1-inch LCD variant. All 3 models are expected to have the current full-screen design that we’ve seen in the iPhone X, and also include the TrueDepth Camera system.

With upwards of 120 million units expected to ship in the second half of next year, KGI describes next year’s lineup as the real super-cycle for iPhone sales. Compare that to the 80 million units shipped in the second half of this year, according to the forecast. It is said that this is mostly due to the increased inventory availability after production issues are sorted out this year. Additionally, it will also be because the new mid-sized model will offer newer features at a more affordable price.

At the moment, the iPhone X is retailing for USD $999 / RM5,149 for the entry level 64GB variant. KGI Securities is predicting that the 6.1-inch LCD model will be priced somewhere between USD $649 to USD $749, which will cater to the low-end to midrange markets thanks to its lower resolution display and cheaper build materials.

The TrueDepth Camera features such as the Face ID, Animoji, and Portrait Mode selfies are exclusive to the iPhone X this year but it’s expected to be available in every variant to be introduced in 2018. It’s also expected that all the new iPhones will no longer have Touch ID and will instead have Face ID for biometric security.

Pokdepinion: Friendly reminder that these are merely speculation and nothing more. It will not be considered official until Apple announces it themselves. This would mean that we still have quite some time to hear about the new Apple devices. This does sound like some interesting stuff is cooking up on Apple’s side for next year.
