The Coffee Lake CPUs may have been revealed ahead of schedule due to some media disrespecting the NDA, but details of the CPUs have already leaked until there isn’t much left to talk about anyway. Now we have some details on the upcoming ASUS ROG Z370 motherboards, and they look downright amazing!

ASUS has detailed out their roadmap for the Z370 platform, with the ROG Maximus X Hero, ROG Maximus X Apex and a plethora of ROG Strix motherboards to be immediately available as soon as the Coffee Lake CPUs hit the market this 5th October, with the Maximus 10 Formula and Maximus 10 Code to arrive later in November.

As expected, the ultimate overclocking motherboard ASUS has for the Z370 platform is the ROG Maximus X Apex. We get ASUS AURA RGB lighting on the board, with a minimal two DIMM slots for better stability at extreme RAM frequencies and the innovative DIMM.2 slot which allows for easier cooling of the hottest M.2 PCIe SSDs.

At the Technical Seminar, the ASUS ROG Maximus X Apex was the board of choice for veteran overclocker coolice to push the Intel Core i7 8700K to 6.6 GHz Cinebench-stable under LN2 cooling! The current record for the i7 8700K is also held by the ROG Maximus X Apex, with a clock speed of 7.3 GHz with all cores AND HyperThreading active!

The ASUS ROG Maximus X Formula was also displayed, with an aesthetic that is pretty similar to the Maximus IX Formula for Kaby Lake CPU. The integrated waterblock in the VRM cooling is also carried over from the previous generation, developed in partnership with EKWB. This motherboard also features a new LiveDash OLED panel under the CPU socket for system monitoring or just to put your very own insignia there for fun. Make it yours, have a blast. The southbridge heatsink is also integrated with a M.2 heatsink that now looks cleaner than the one on the Maximus IX Formula.

Moving down the ranks, the ASUS ROG Maximus X Code is going to be more affordable than the Formula, but loses out on the LiveDash OLED display. The PCB shielding is carried over from the Maximus X Formula, but for some reason it has one less ASUS AURA RGB illumination zone near the IO ports. It also doesn’t feature the integrated waterblock in the VRM heatsinks, with standard aluminium heatsinks here. Aside from that, you do not seem to losing out on much at all.

For those who want ASUS ROG performance but have no need for most of the premium features, the ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero is a great choice. It drops the PCB shielding for a more conventional look. Even as the “entry-level” ROG, so to speak, it features ROG’s renowned focus on performance as well as aggressive aesthetics with ASUS AURA RGB to keep things interesting. The built-in I/O shield which we first encountered in the Rampage V Extreme Edition 10 is also here, and is in fact available on every motherboard in the ROG lineup this time to make your life easier when building your system.

There are a slew of other motherboards that were shown at the event, including ASUS’ TUF Z370 series, PRIME Z370 series and the many ROG Strix Z370 motherboards to fill every niche in the market. ITX enthusiasts can also look forward to the ROG Strix Z370-I Gaming!

Pokdepinion: ASUS is really targeting every price range with their Z370 motherboards. We can’t wait until we get our hands on these motherboards to put them through their paces!
