After the ASUS Zenfone 3, Zenfone 3 Deluxe and Zenfone 3 Ultra were launched, the line-up was decidedly smaller than ASUS has expanded the Zenfone 2 series to be. Fans of the Zenfone series need not fret though, as ASUS has announced the Zenfone 3 Laser and Zenfone 3 Max at a special launch event in Vietnam.

Zenfone 3 Laser

The Zenfone 3 Laser is the sequel to the Zenfone 2 Laser of yesteryear. It features a 2nd-gen laser autofocus system for ultra-fast focusing, the first generation of which was first introduced in the Zenfone Selfie. The laser autofocusing system isn’t unique to the Zenfone 3 Laser though as the first three members of the Zenfone 3 family all featured laser autofocusing systems. The camera is a 13 MP PixelMaster 3.0 one, using Sony’s ubiquitous Exmor RS IMX 214, instead of the Toshiba camera sensors in the Zenfone 2 series. The camera also features electronic image stabilization (EIS) and a color correction sensor. It comes with a 5.5″ 1080p full HD display and a metal body design. It also features a fingerprint sensor claimed to unlock the device in 0.2 seconds. Pricing for the 4GB RAM / 32GB storage model is 5,990,000 VND, or around RM1060.

Zenfone 3 Max

The Zenfone 3 Max improves on the Zenfone Max‘s design, featuring a metal body and a 5.2″ IPS display under a 2.5D arc glass. The Zenfone 3 Max also receives a 0.2 sec fingerprint unlock. However it actually takes a step back where the Zenfone Max shone; the battery. Instead of the 5000 mAh battery in the Zenfone Max, the Zenfone 3 Max features a mere 4100 mAh battery, which is claimed to offer 30 days of standby. As a comparison, the 5000 mAh battery in the original was claimed to offer 38 days of standby time. The Zenfone 3 Max will feature 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and will be priced at 4,490,000 VND or around RM795.

Other specifications were not revealed by techrum.vn, but we have reason to expect that the two new Zenfones will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 under the hood, similar to the basic Zenfone 3, due to the revealed pricing.

Pokdepinion: With the competition of other Chinese-branded smartphones heating up, ASUS really does not have a choice but to up the ante with metal bodies and fingerprint sensors across the range. Let’s hope that ASUS Malaysia prices them right when they are brought in to Malaysia.
