Just recently, Axiata Group Berhad launched their first esports tournament called Axiata Game Hero that will see Free Fire – Battlegrounds players from across Southeast Asia, vying for top spot and a chance for a slice of RM500,000 in prize money.

The tournament will see participation of Axiata’s operating companies from Malaysia (Celcom Axiata), Cambodia (Smart Axiata), Indonesia (XL Axiata), as well as Bangladesh (Robi Axiata). In it, players will compete in the battle royale game, Free Fire – Battlegrounds, which is developed by Garena and licensed by Axiata’s partner, Techninier.  Pitted at a remote island, it will see 50 players battle it out with each other in 10-minute sessions to determine the winner where the last person standing will be the victor.

The top three squads from each of the listed countries will be flown to Kuala Lumpur for the Axiata Game Hero finals that’ll commence this November. If you are interested in the tournament, the Axiata Game Hero contest is open to all Celcom subscribers in the country with a minimal weekly fee of RM4. Those who would like to join can download Free Fire from either the Play Store or App Store and will need to maintain an active subscription throughout the entire duration of the tournament (four months) to be eligible.

Pokdepinion: Personally I’m not a big fan of battle royale games but hey, if you are (and specifically Free Fire), why not join the tournament? Who knows, you could be the winner and see yourself winning some cold hard cash!
