Selfie Expert for a new generation

[UPDATE 2018/01/24]: OPPO has announced the official Malaysian pricing for the OPPO A83 and it is indeed RM 999.

OPPO Malaysia has just announced the Malaysian release date for their entry-level Selfie Expert device, the OPPO A83. Meant to be the more affordable addition to OPPO’s other Selfie Expert devices, the OPPO A83 will be released in Malaysia on January 23rd which is next week.

The OPPO A83 will have a 5.7 inch HD (720 x 1440) display with an 18:9 tall screen that’s popular among smartphones these days. It will also feature a single f/2.2 13MP rear facing camera as well as an f/2.2 8MP front facing camera paired with OPPO’s A.I. Beauty Recognition Technology. Under the hood the OPPO A83 will be packing an octa-core Mediatek MT6763T Helio P23 chipset, which is the same chipset found on OPPO’s F5 Youth smartphone. The OPPO A83 will also come with a 3GB RAM as well as 32GB of internal storage which is expandable with a microSD card.

Powering the device will be a decent 3,180 mAh battery and will be running Android 7.1 Nougat with Color OS 3.2 as with the other recent OPPO devices. One thing of note is that the OPPO A83 lacks a fingerprint sensor and will instead rely on facial recognition to unlock the device.

The official retail price for the OPPO A83 hasn’t yet been revealed by OPPO Malaysia however you can already purchase the device (curiously) for RM 999 through DirectD so expect the eventual retail price to be around that. The OPPO A83 will be available for purchase in two colours, black and gold colour.

Pokdepinion: The price isn’t half bad to be honest for a device with the ever popular 18:9 screen however with the similar specced Zenfone Max Plus (you can out our review of the device while you’re at it) with the slightly lower price as well as other devices around that price range out right now, they might have some stiff competition.
