HMD Global Introduces Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus

HMD, the home of Nokia smartphones has today unveiled the new Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus, with the former now available in Malaysia.

Starting with the 6.1 Plus, it offers a 5.8-inch Full HD+ 19:9 ratio display. The phone is encased in glass both front and back. Under the hood is packs a Snapdragon 636 chipset and is powered by a 3060mAh battery. For its camera, it sports a dual 16MP+5MP combo as its main camera and comes with a 16MP selfie shooter on the front. The phone also offers AI photography, which helps you in your shots.

For storage, it offers 4GB RAM that’s paired with 64GB, which you can expand up to 400GB through a microSD card. The phone comes with Android Oreo out of the box and comes with 3 color variants; Gloss Midnight Blue, Gloss Black, and Gloss White.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus is now available here in Malaysia which you can purchase at a RM1,149. There’s also the launch bundle that you can get where it comes with an action camera, tempered glass screen protector and silicon case that’s worth RM300 (while stocks last).

Over to the Nokia 5.1 Plus, it is powered by a MediaTek Helio P60 SoC. It also comes with dual cameras at the back (13MP+5MP) that comes with electronic video stabilization.

Other than that, it comes with a 5.8-inch HD+ display and comes with a 2.5D curved front and rear glass design. It will also come in the same color variants as the Nokia 6.1 Plus. Despite that, pricing of the device is yet to be announced by the company.

Both phones are a part of Android One, which means each device will stay fresh over time with three years of monthly security patches and two years of guaranteed OS updates after launch. Both phones are also ready for Android 9 Pie, where it will let users get the best experience of Android.

Pokdepinion: I wish they could’ve kept the Nokia 6.1 design (which I like) but upgrade it with what the 6.1 Plus offers. The smartphone is a beauty actually, but only god knows how much I despise notches… I’m still waiting for the next flagship from Nokia, with the last one that they made was the Nokia 8 which was launched last year.. Hopefully they will soon.
