Yesterday was honor‘s official launching of the honor 8 in China. The dual camera system that was first introduced in Huawei‘s flagship, the Huawei P9, is also found in this vastly more affordable device from the Chinese company’s sub-brand.

It will feature a dual 12 megapixel camera system, based on the Sony IMX286 sensors which are also used in the Huawei P9. However the Leica branding appears to be missing from the honor 8. Based on the first bullet point in the lower left corner of this slide, it seems like the honor 8 will also feature a monochrome + RGB sensor configuration.

Honor 8 bottom

To charge the 3000 mAh battery in the honor 8, you will have to use the USB Type-C port on the bottom edge of the phone. Also on the bottom are the mono loudspeaker and 3.5mm audio jack. The top is a little sparse, only home to the infrared transmitter and a microphone hole. The frame is made of metal, with ceramic inserts for the antennae.

Instead of a metal unibody, this time the Chinese company opted for a 2.5D glass back for the rear. The glass back appears to be multilayered and does look pretty awesome. The front also features a 2.5D glass cover, over a 5.2″ 1080p display. Other specifications of the honor 8 include a Kirin 950 SoC paired with up to 4GB of RAM, up to 64GB of storage. The honor 8 also runs EMUI 4.1 overlay based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow right out of the box.

Honor 8

The honor 8 will be available in China at 10.08 a.m. on the 19th of July in 5 color variants, Pearl White, Sunrise Gold, Midnight Black, Sakura Pink, and Sapphire Blue, but not all hardware versions are available in every color. The 3GB RAM / 32GB version costs 1999 yuan (about RM1196), the 4GB RAM / 32GB variant will cost 2299 yuan (about RM1376) and the highest specced 4GB RAM / 64 GB version will costs 2499 yuan (about RM1495). Obviously pricing will be different when it arrives in Malaysia, but this offers a pretty good idea of the price range that the honor 8 will be in.

Pokdepinion: Sharing much of its specifications with the Huawei P9 aside from a different design, slightly slower SoC and no Leica branding, the honor 8 looks like a steal!
