There are probably few devices that are as anticipated as the HUAWEI Mate 20. After countless teasers and leaks from the Chinese company, the latest smartphones are out. These new smartphones come with the latest Kirin 980 chipset, up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage and a large selection of different features to choose from.

All the devices come with impressive AI cameras which deliver AI image stabilization, AI Painting Photography which recognizes more than 1500 scenarios from 25 categories for optimized parameters when taking the shot. New to the HUAWEI line up are the new Leica wide-angle cameras which offer a different perspective on things. The devices also supports a new NM card standard for expandable storage, which is a new HUAWEI-developed storage size. It is sized exactly the same as a nanoSIM, allowing HUAWEI to save even more space when designing the SIM tray.

HUAWEI Mate 20

The HUAWEI Mate 20 is definitely an interesting device. For starters, it uses the HUAWEI P20’s 12MP f/1.8 primary camera, which features large 1.55μm pixels, and mates it with an 16MP f/2.2 ultra wide angle 17mm (35mm eqv.) camera and an 8MP f/2.4 2x telephoto camera. That’s definitely a pretty fresh combination for HUAWEI. The ultra-wide camera’s minimum focusing distance is a mere 2.5cm, which allows for impressive macro shots.

This devices features a 6.5″ FHD+ display with a tiny “waterdrop” notch which is backed by a 4000 mAh battery. It supports the new HUAWEI 40W SuperCharge, but there is no wireless charging here. Water resistance is rated at IP53, which is the same as the HUAWEI Mate 10. The HUAWEI Mate 20 pricing starts from €799 (~RM3841) for the 4GB + 128GB variant, while the 6GB + 128GB HUAWEI Mate 20 is priced at €849 (~RM4082). Availability commences today.

HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro

As the name suggests, this is an upgraded variant of the HUAWEI Mate 20. For starters, the rear cameras are more similar to the HUAWEI P20 Pro. It features a 40MP f/1.8 primary camera with a 1/1.7″ sensor, a 20MP f/2.2 ultra wide angle 16mm (35mm eqv.) and a 8MP f/2.4 3x telephoto camera. The ultra-wide camera’s minimum focusing is the same, but with the higher resolution and slightly wider field-of-view, you might be able to capture more with it.

This device opts for a smaller 6.4″ curved QHD+ OLED display with a bigger notch. The bigger notch was necessary to house all the sensors required for a secure 3D Face Unlock experience. Aside from 3D Face Unlock, the HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro also comes with in-screen fingerprint scanner, which can scan two fingers simultaneously for more secure applications. The battery is slightly larger at 4200 mAh, and it supports 15W fast wireless charging, and even reverse wireless charging. The HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro is priced at €1049 (~RM5043) for the 6GB + 128GB variant, and available today. And oh, it’s available in the signature Twilight color option.

HUAWEI Mate 20 X

This is one behemoth of a gaming smartphone! It features a 7.2″ FHD+ OLED screen which HUAWEI’s CEO proudly proclaimed is larger and higher resolution than the Nintendo Switch’s. It features stereo sound for a more immersive gaming experience, and also features HUAWEI Supercool, featuring a vapor chamber paired with graphene film to wick heat away from the Kirin 980 for maximum sustained gaming performance. HUAWEI is the first to use graphene for cooling in a smartphone, so we are quite excited to see what they bring to the table.

Fitting for a gaming smartphone, it has a massive 5000 mAh battery which also supports the 40W HUAWEI SuperCharge. Aside from gaming, the HUAWEI Mate 20 X fulfills its destiny as a Mate series device with the M Pen. The M Pen is HUAWEI’s take on the stylus, and it can detect 4096 levels of pressure. Camera wise, you aren’t losing anything, as it shares the same camera as the HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro. Expect to pay €899 (~RM4322) for the 6GB + 128GB HUAWEI Mate 20 X. Availability will begin from 26th October.

Porsche Design HUAWEI Mate 20 RS

This is yet another product of HUAWEI’s partnership with Porsche Design. This is essentially the HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro, with leather trim. For pricing, you are looking at €1695 (~RM8149) and €2095 (~RM10072) for the 8GB + 256GB variant and the 8GB + 256GB variant, respectively.
