Intel Battlemage GPUs Possibly Delayed, Leaker Claims
The uphill battle Intel’s graphics division has been experiencing since the inception of Arc Graphics certainly isn’t an easy one – if the latest claim from serial leaker Golden Pig Upgrade is anything to go by, the situation may be worse than expected.
In a Weibo post, the leaker claims there have been no signs of Battlemage at all, the codename of which refers to Intel’s B-series GPUs set to succeed Alchemist-based A-series models. The leaker also mentioned that DG3, which would be Battlemage desktop GPUs, may not appear even next year. To put this into perspective, this would mean Battlemage may not appear until at least 2026 – while both AMD and NVIDIA have been preparing their next-gen offerings set to launch later this year.
However, there have been signs of Battlemage in active development – with earlier reports from Computerbase claiming that the new Intel GPU will be launched by the end of 2024, close to Black Friday. Given the typical release cadence of consumer GPUs, this sounds plenty plausible as well – though it’s unclear if things may have changed since this report was published.
That being said, it’s very unlikely that Intel’s GPU division will be killed entirely, as leaks have shown Battlemage’s existence in the upcoming Core Ultra 200 series mobile processors. Still, with Team Blue already having a reasonably solid footing in the gaming GPU space, it’s hard to say if it’s worth it to even scale it down further than the already small portfolio of products that Arc currently features today.
Pokdepinion: I have my doubts. Surely Intel doesn’t pull the rug on their GPU division just like that?
