Joe Biden Says Game Developers Create Games that “Teach You How to Kill”

If you ever needed a reason to be angry today, you might just have one today. Former US Vice President Joe Biden has a rather controversial opinion on game developers and tech industries.

In an interview with New York Times, Joe Biden described game developers whom he met during his tenure at the White House are “creeps”, “righteous, and “arrogant”. Furthermore, he described their work as artists who can come up with games that teaches people how to kill. These game developers are said to be high-ranking executives from Silicon Valley.

And you may recall, the criticism I got for meeting with the leaders in Silicon Valley, when I was trying to work out an agreement dealing with them protecting intellectual property for artists in the United States of America. And at one point, one of the little creeps sitting around that table, who was a multi-, close to a billionaire, who told me he was an artist because he was able to come up with games to teach you how to kill people…

Previously, Joe Biden has called for legal restrictions to be imposed on games with violent content. In 2013, it was suggested that there is no legal objective in imposing a tax on violent media. Furthermore, it was stated that while there is no definitive proof linking violent content in games and media with real acts of violence, the public shouldn’t be afraid of “facts” which may come from research on the topic.

Joe Biden added on by saying:

And then one of these righteous people said to me that, you know, “We are the economic engine of America. We are the ones.” And fortunately I had done a little homework before I went and I said, you know, I find it fascinating. As I added up the seven outfits, everyone’s there but Microsoft. I said, you have fewer people on your payroll than all the losses that General Motors just faced in the last quarter, of employees.

So don’t lecture me about how you’ve created all this employment. The point is, there’s an arrogance about it, an overwhelming arrogance that we are, we are the ones. We can do what we want to do. I disagree.

The aforementioned exemption refers to the § 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Basically, the aim of this policy is to help platform owners avoid being blamed for the content generated by its users. Joe Biden isn’t calling for a simple reform however as he wants to completely abolish it. He believes that it’s being abused and it’s the responsibility of the government to ensure that it doesn’t happen.

Pokdepinion: Sure sounds like someone decided to generalize the entire videogame industry just by the small experience he got. I would like to see what evidences he can come up with when arguing about this point.
