Designed as a premium performance chip for dual-camera smartphones, MediaTek today has introduced a new member in the MediaTek Helio P series with the MediaTek Helio P25 SoC. This new chip is an upgrade to the MediaTek P20, combining the power of an octa-core CPU built on the 16nm FinFET+ process with a superior MediaTek Imagiq ISP.

The MediaTek Helio P25 features the same MediaTek Imagiq ISP that was featured on the Helio X20, X25 and also the P20. This allows for some nifty real-time depth-of-field manipulation with dual camera setups. The Imagiq ISP allows for dual camera setups of 13MP + 13MP sensors or a single camera with up to 24MP resolution. It also offers support for Bayer & Mono dual sensor support, a setup which is now implemented by Huawei in their flagship smartphones.

Two ARM A53 CPU clusters deliver the processing grunt in the Helio P25, with the low-performance cluster running at 1.6GHz while the high-performance cluster runs at 2.5GHz. This next generation of MediaTek’s chip also support up to 6GB of LPDDR4x memory. Power efficiency is managed by CorePilot technology, promising better overall power efficiency of up to 25%. For gaming performance, it sports an ARM Mali-T880 MP2 clocked at up to 900MHz, for video and gaming applications.

Smartphones powered by MediaTek Helio P25 are expected to hit the market in Q1 2017.

Pokdepinion: I always wanted to try MediaTek’s higher end chipsets, but it is really difficult to get a device with the higher end MediaTek SoCs here.
