The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 has previously leaked for a September launch. But now we have a more concrete date. The date is 15th September, and we are looking at a device that will feature no bezels on its bottom.

The Mi MIX and subsequently the Mi MIX 2 and Mi MIX 2S have always had a relatively large chin. I liked it, but those who love to take selfies found the position rather annoying as it delivers unflattering images of their chins if used in the default position.

The upcoming Mi MIX 3 should fix that with a popup camera ala vivo NEX. This should not only offer better selfies, but also give a higher screen-to-body ratio now that Xiaomi doesn’t have to allocate space for the front facing camera in the lower bezel.

Xiaomi is expected to rely on Samsung’s COP display technology, so this might the first device in the Mi MIX family to feature an AMOLED panel. Leaked pricing suggest a starting price of RMB 3399 (~RM2024) for the standard edition, ranging up to RMB 5299 (~RM3155) for the full ceramic variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Will you be getting one when it launches?

I think the Mi Mix 2s with the chin is a really nice looking phone. It’s different, it’s distinctive. This obsession with having the thinnest bezel possible and similar top and bottom bezel is akin to coming out with the thinnest phone a few years back. In a couple of years, every phone would look the same from the front. It’s already boring design wise as it is.

I do agree! I loved the Mi MIX 2’s design! It was always a conversation starter, simply because of the unconventional design
