During NVIDIA’s CES press conference, they announced the NVIDIA Freestyle feature, where you apply a bunch of filters to the games that you’re playing. Kinda like Instagram editing for games.

New NVIDIA Freestyle Feature Announced

During NVIDIA’s CES press conference, the graphics card manufacturer announced new features for its GeForce Experience client starting January 29th 2018.

Shadowplay Highlights will be supported by 4 new games, including Epic Games’ Fortnite Battle Royale. The Ansel feature got a new UI, and 8 new filters have been added, alongside the ability to mix different filters. Speaking of filters, arguably the most interesting feature being mentioned here is NVIDIA Freestyle, a feature which lets you apply post-process filters to supported games while you play via the GeForce Experience overlay.

This includes 15 different filters with 38 presets, including dramatic ones like HDR. You can find the list of supported games here and a list of filters below.

NVIDIA Freestyle Filters

  • Black and White
  • Color
  • Colorblind
  • Contrast
  • Details
  • Exposure
  • Half Tone
  • Mood
  • Night Mode
  • Retro
  • Sepia
  • Vignette
  • Depth of Field
  • Special FX
  • Adjustments

It’s definitely interesting, as it’s implemented at a driver level, and does the job for which you used to need cumbersome injectors. Some interesting settings include a dedicated mode for that will help colorblind players see a clearer picture and a Night Mode that reduces blue similar to what is built into mobile phones. It’ll basically let you sleep easier after gaming all night.

In order to get the new features, you’ll need to download the new version of Geforce Experience (3.12) and the new NVIDIA driver (release 390), when they become available on January 9th 2018. You’ll also need to activate the “Experimental Features” option in GeForce Experience‘s settings.

Be sure to check out the trailer for the new NVIDIA Freestyle feature to get a better understanding. In case you missed it, NVIDIA also unveiled a 65-inch G-Sync-capable 120 Hz 4K HDR monitor. It sounds amazing, and a bit of a tongue twister to say, I know, but if you’re curious about the display, click here to find out.

Pokdepinion: Well, this is rather interesting. I mean, it’s gonna be weird to view games in a way that’s not meant to be presented but enhancing on the other hand is gonna be awesome. Can’t wait to try out the new NVIDIA Freestyle feature.
