Nintendo Switch May Be Getting PS4 Remote Play

When you think of videogame platforms, you’d probably be thinking of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It’s natural for the companies behind the platforms to compete in order to make their platform the more dominant one in the market. However, business has always been unpredictable and today, we’re learning of one potential example of that.

Sony Interactive Entertainment is looking to further expand their PS4 Remote Play service. As of right now, it is available for PC, Mac, Android, and iOS complete with DualShock support. Now, it appears that they’re seriously considering adding that feature to the Nintendo Switch.

Reddit user YouRedditHereFirst stumbled upon a survey which indicates that Sony seems to be testing the waters for an expanded service. Over a long series of questions, Sony explores the inclusion of more compatible devices, the addition of PS1 / PS2 titles. and a slimline DualShock controller.

There are quite a few interesting things you take note of in the survey but arguably the most interesting one has to be adding PS4 Remote Play on the Nintendo Switch. This would make for a great replacement for the failed PS Vita handheld device. Furthermore, if Sony ever decided to go the cloud gaming route, establishing a presence and improving relations with Nintendo would be beneficial for the company. This is of course assuming both companies are willing to look towards the future instead of past grudges.

Given that the Nintendo Switch is doing well in global sales, this could also be fruitful to Sony as it can encourage Nintendo gamers to adopt the PlayStation 4, and possibly other Sony consoles down the road. The PS4 would have a better chance given that it has become a lot more affordable as we are at the end of its life cycle.

For now, nothing has been confirmed yet but we will be reporting more on this as soon as information is available.
