The blistering fast Nokia 8 that we have just finished reviewing has gotten a new update with the latest September Google Security Patch, fixing 81 CVEs and vulnerabilities. The security patch has just been began rolling out to the Google Pixel and Nexus devices recently, and the Nokia 8 has already received it. Talk about speed!

This is not the Oreo update that is promised for the Nokia 8, Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 but only features improved system stability and user interface enhancements along with the Google Security Patch for September. As the Nokia devices run on mostly pure Android aside from a custom camera app in the Nokia 8, Nokia will have an easier time pushing out updates to the devices with less tinkering to do on the custom skins most manufacturers apply on their device.

If Nokia keeps this up, Android enthusiasts will have a new option to satisfy their taste for pure, secure Android with security patches rolling out every month. They did promise fast updates for their devices, so with this update now out, I guess they are really holding up to their promises, something which many brands have failed to do.

Pokdepinion: I always envied how Nexus devices were always the first in line to receive updates. While my friend with the Nexus 6P was enjoying Android 7.1.1 Nougat, I was stuck on Android 7.0 Nougat. Looking at this, I guess if I had a Nokia 8, I wouldn’t be waiting much longer for Android 8.0 Oreo to hit my device.
