NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 leaked, RX 480 killer?
It seems like NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 is finally here. It was previously sighted, but NVIDIA didn’t officially announce it yet. The higher end NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 are really fast cards, but they are out of reach of most gamers. Then the AMD RX 480 came around, and it was touted as the high performance graphics card for the masses, coming in at around RM1299 and trading punches with the NVIDIA GTX 970. As we know, AMD has long been more optimized for DX 12 than NVIDIA, allowing it to trade punches with even the GTX 980 in DX 12 games.
NVIDIA wasn’t sitting quietly while AMD was winning the hearts of thrifty gamers. Previously, leaked images of the GTX 1060 has surfaced, but no specifications were confirmed. These leaked slides at videocardz.com offer a better look into the upcoming card and specifications. The GTX 1060 will pack a 1280 CUDA core Pascal GPU clocked at 1.7 GHz mated to 6GB of GDDR5 RAM.
NVIDIA claims to offer better performance and also power efficiency. But of course the graph is quite skewed in favor of themselves. In any case, it remains to be seen whether NVIDIA will be delivering on its promise, and more importantly, whether the price will be comparable with AMD’s offering, or will AMD still reign supreme in the affordable-yet-powerful-enough category of cards?
Pokdepinion: Whether NVIDIA prices the GTX 1060 to directly compete with the AMD RX 480 is not the main issue, but how will this announcement affect the potential buyers of the RX 480. I believe most educated consumers will definitely hold on to their wallets, waiting for the benchmarks of the GTX 1060 to appear before choosing one or the other. As the RX 480 is AMD’s only current card, it will definitely hurt them pretty badly.

Why need to see the price? only RM300 different between rx480 and gtx9760(2 years ago). And now u risk ur motherboard too. AMD>ALL
NVIDIA also have same problem with their GTX 960 before. Just wait the fix. Only few people get that problem lol. This is not about AMD / NVIDIA fault but this about manufacture fault. Think before write. AMD have mention people that get the problem will have fix soon.

Why always need to compared to Nvidia? At least Nvidia fault didnt risk another component. AMD is getting worse day by day. And their fan is getting more delusional too see their hero FK up.
I really2 hope AMD can challenge Nvidia, but they cant. 14nm FINFET BS but the power consumption is high. ='(
naah, the 960gtx is not nvidia problem, its asus problem.. the power spike is high indeed, but the spike is too short and will not increase the pcie slot temp at all. Yes,for rx480 the problem does not happen to all ppl, but its still a problem and a serious one indeed. some ppl reported broken pcie slot, and upon investigation there is some melted plastic. not a NV fanboy, been using amd since HD3870, just hate that ppl backing up AMD on this and overhype. IF u truly an AMD fan / user, u should bash/mad/post this issue over and over until they fix this permanently, not just apply some band aid by reducing some power limit of the card.And YES, its amd own problem from using 6pin power instead of 8, they wanted it to look good on paper but in reality it is damn bad.

I agree with you Apis. In the case of the GTX 960, it seems only the ASUS Strix was facing this issue, which points to it being ASUS’ fault. Meanwhile, the RX 480’s around are all reference models, which meant that AMD is probably the one at fault here. I was also on the hype train back then, and I am disappointed too by this turn of events.
