Yup, you heard that right. That famous audio brand that makes awesome audio-visual electronics is now tapping into the storage business and to kick start, they have announced two solid-state drives (SSDs) which carry the APS-SL2 and APS-SM1 model names.

Pioneer claims that these are using best-in-class TLC NAND flash memory and SLC cache technology to deliver insane sequential read and write performances up to 500MB/s and 400MB/s respectively.

Both models will be available in 120GB and 240GB capacities allowing easy storage upgrade options for desktops and notebooks with the choice of 2.5-inch SSD format (APS-SL2) and M.2 2280 form factor (APS-SM1).

Both of these models have been designed for high reliability and low power consumption, together with anti-shock and anti-vibration protection, S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) feature, garbage collection and advanced LDPC error-correction capabilities.

The Japanese MNC based in Tokyo is providing both drives with three-years limited warranty.

Pokdepinion: I don’t see anything unique here. SLC is definitely inviting. But let’s see what would be the underlying NAND chip being used. On a side note, maybe we can soon have Pioneer home theatre with large SSD capacity to play 8K videos from a 7.1 surround?
