PlayStation 4 Now Supports Cross-Play for All Games

PlayStation 4 Now Supports Cross-Play for All Games 20

The long awaited cross-play functionality for the PlayStation 4 has just come out of its beta phase. That means that the PS4 is now capable of supporting cross-play on all games if the developer wants to take advantage of the feature.

This news comes not from an official announcement, but rather from Wired. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is speculated to be the first new major title to take advantage of this new feature. This makes sense given that the release date is getting pretty close.

We knew that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was getting cross-play between the PS4 and Xbox One this month. It seems that news coincided with the PS4 upgrading its cross-play functionality. This seems to be a step in the right direction for Sony. It hasn’t been known for being the best sport when it comes to cross-play. Now that more and more games are supporting the feature, it might start to shake that reputation.

Wired spoke to Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan about PlayStation Now in that same article. The subscription service saw a significant price cut yesterday. The monthly cost has dropped from USD $20 to USD $10 and the annual subscription went from USD $100 down to USD $60. God of War, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Infamous: Second Son, and Grand Theft Auto V also joined the service’s roster.

PS Now had a respectable 700,000 subscribers, but paled in comparison to the “millions” of Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Wired quoted Ryan as saying

The track record of the incumbent platform winning the next time around is not a great one. So the major thrust of my executive energy is to avoid complacency.

PokdepinionIt’s been a long time coming and it’s finally here. Hopefully with no hiccups either.
