Google cutting their ties with HUAWEI. On the hardware side, Intel, Qualcomm, Xilinx and Broadcom have also stopped supplying HUAWEI with their chips, a move which may severely cripple HUAWEI’s ambitions to be the world’s top smartphone maker by 2020. It should also put an end to HUAWEI’s PC endeavor with the entire HUAWEI MateBook series relying on Intel processors.

While HUAWEI already has HiSilicon designing their in-house processors for their smartphones, they can’t match Qualcomm’s lineup. Their current lineup consists of a total of two main designs: the Kirin 710 mid-range chipset and the Kirin 980 flagship. Because of that, you can still see devices like the HUAWEI Y Max using a Snapdragon 660. But then this is a minor setback.

Their PC division is probably going to take the biggest hit since all their designs are based on Intel’s processors. With that said, HUAWEI’s laptops aren’t exactly their main focus. HUAWEI’s networking business is also going to be hit quite hard, given that Xilinx and Broadcom will no longer supply them with vital chips.

Aside from US companies, German chipmaker Infineon Technologies has also reported stopped shipments to HUAWEI. The Chinese government will probably be forced to enter talks with the US, failing which should result in a trade war between the two superpowers.

Pokdepinion: I wonder if HUAWEI will finally expand their Kirin lineup to cover more bases.

[UPDATE]: HUAWEI will still continue supporting all existing HUAWEI and HONOR smartphones!
