Joining the Redmi Note 7, there’s now the newly announced Redmi 7. The Redmi 7 is going to be even more affordable than the Redmi Note 7, with a weaker chipset and a poorer display.

The Redmi 7 will be powered by a Snapdragon 632 chipset, which will be mated to up to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. For those really on a shoestring budget, the Redmi 7 also has an option with just 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. Storage is expandable, so it is still pretty usable.

Handling the camera chops will be a 12MP f/2.2 camera with 1.25μm pixels. There is also a secondary 2MP depth sensor just so you can get that beautiful bokeh effect. Up front is a 8MP selfie camera which is capable of AI Beauty mode and AI Portrait mode.

The most interesting feature is probably the P2i nano-coating which Redmi applied on the Redmi 7. That’s similar to what the POCOPHONE F1 has. Make no mistake, the coating does not make the Redmi 7 water-resistant, but it will survive mild splashes better than a device without the coating. It also comes with Redmi’s new 18-month warranty, which is pretty cool for an entry-level device.

Redmi 7 Specifications

  • Snapdragon 632, octa-core up to 1.8 GHz, 14nm FinFET
  • Up to 4GB RAM
  • Up to 64GB storage (expandable via microSD up to 512GB)
  • 6.26″ HD+ display, dewdrop notch, 84% NTSC color gamut
  • 12MP f/2.2 + 2MP depth sensor
  • 8MP selfie camera, AI Beautify
  • 4000 mAh battery
  • 2GB + 16GB: RMB 699 (~RM424)
    3GB + 32GB: RMB 799 (~RM485)
    4GB + 64GB: RMB 999 (~RM606)

The Redmi 7 will be available in black, with gradient designs for the red and blue color options. It’s worth noting that the Redmi 7 has passed SIRIM certification, so it should also be launching in Malaysia really soon.
