If you are in the market for a value smartphone from Samsung, perhaps the Samsung Galaxy M20 will be right up your alley. The Samsung Galaxy M20 has just been spotted on SIRIM, so it should be arriving pretty soon here in Malaysia. Based on the Indian pricing, the Samsung Galaxy M20 will try to penetrate the extremely competitive mid-range segment.

Design-wise, the Galaxy M20 will stand out as the first Samsung device to feature a notch here in Malaysia. It will tout a 6.3″ Infinity-V display, which is equivalent to what other manufacturers call a waterdrop display. A small notch, but one which we will not let slip by after all the teasing they have done about the notch.

From the SIRIM listing itself we already spotted the first disappointing specification of the Galaxy M20. It comes without support for AC WiFi. The rest of specifications are also quite uninteresting, as you will see.

Key Samsung Galaxy M20 Specifications

  • Exynos 7904 (2 x Cortex-A73 @ 1.8 GHz + 6 x Cortex-A53 @ 1.6 GHz), 14nm FinFET
  • Up to 4GB RAM
  • Up to 64GB storage
  • 6.3″ FHD+ Infinity-V PLS TFT display
  • 13MP f/1.9 + 5MP f/2.2 wide angle
  • 8MP f/2.0 selfie camera
  • Samsung Experience 9.5 based on Android 8.1 Oreo
  • 5000 mAh battery (15W Fast Charging)
  • 3GB + 32GB: Rs. 10 990 (~RM628) / 4GB + 64GB: Rs 12 990 (~RM742)

The chipset appears pretty weak even when compared against the Snapdragon 660, at least on paper. The only main attraction is probably its price and huge battery. If Samsung Malaysia manages to price it well, it may attract users who desire a large battery without shelling out too much money.

However the main question that comes to mind is how does the Samsung Galaxy M series fit into the whole Samsung Galaxy lineup? As it stands, the Galaxy M20 appears to be more affordable than the Galaxy J series, while actually having a selling point unlike the latter.

How much do you think will be the Samsung Galaxy M20’s Malaysian price? Would you consider it as your next device?

Pokdepinion: Well Samsung traditionally falters in their mid-range offerings, so here’s hoping they will actually do this one right!
