Sony Unveils 400mm F2.8 G Master Prime Lens — Coming This September 2018

Sony has today unveiled their new and highly anticipated FE 400mm F2.8 G Master OSS large aperture super-telephoto primary lens, which boasts the lightest weight in its class.

The new FE 400mm F2.8 GM OSS is the first large aperture super-telephoto to join the E-mount line-up. It can produce brilliant image quality, focusing speed and precision that’s extraordinary while being the lightest weight in its class.

Ideally, it is made for professional sports, wildlife, and nature photographers. Weighing in at 2897g, it provides portability and maneuverability that is rarely seen in a lens of its class.

It features two high-speed XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors that drive the lens’ focus group, capable of achieving up to 5 times improvement in moving-subject tracking performance.

Being a member of the company’s flagship G Master Series lenses, the new large aperture super-telephoto prime lens features image of great quality and detail. The lens are also coated with Sony’s Nano AR coating to suppress any unwanted reflection, glare, or ghosting.

In addition to that, it features an 11-blade circular aperture mechanism that produces extremely natural and beautiful background defocus, or in a much simpler term, bokeh effect.

FE 400mm F2.8 is compatible with Sony’s 1.4x and 2.0x E-mount tele-converters. Durability isn’t forgotten despite all this though. It is built with a magnesium alloy and a lightweight carbon fibre hood. The lens are dust and moisture resistant and to add to that, its front element is coated with fluorine to resist dirt and fingerprints.

Besides that, there are ample amount of hard controls on the lens, which includes Full-Time DMF, customizable focus hold button in four different locations on the lens, and a focus ring that features Linear Response MF for fine and responsive manual focus.

The new FE 400mm F2.9 GM OSS will be available in selected Asia Pacific countries starting from September 2018. Further informations on local availability will be updated soon.
