It would seem that the speed upgrade for Unifi and Streamyx users is happening earlier than expected, according to a new section on TM’s website.

Speed Upgrade for TM Unifi and Streamyx Happening Earlier Than Planned

Speed Upgrade for TM Unifi and Streamyx Happening Earlier Than Planned

With regards to TM’s Broadband Improvement Plan (BIP), many of us knew that there will be a speed upgrade for Unifi and Streamyx users. The Unifi upgrade, which is dubbed as Unifi Turbo, was slated to begin on 15th August 2018. Turns out, that is no longer the case now.

The new BIP section on TM’s website now states that the Unifi Turbo upgrade will be taking place on 18th July 2018 instead. The same date onwards will also existing broadband (Streamyx) users upgraded gradually in speed. Of course, this is still subjected to their coverage / availability but it’s still something.

However, it is important to note that both Unifi and Streamyx users must give their consent to TM before they can proceed with said speed upgrades. We are uncertain at the moment of this writing if there will be additional terms and conditions upon giving consent to TM.

One thing for sure, there’s just a bit more waiting to be done as we wait for 18th July 2018 to come and see more information on these upgrades, among other things in the company, surfaces then. Let’s hope for the best now, shall we?

[Update: The BIP page will redirect you to the Unifi homepage now. No word yet on why but perhaps the page was published too early. We will be reporting on this if and when information becomes available.]

Pokdepinion: No one’s gonna say no to having Unifi Turbo or upgraded Streamyx sooner rather than later. But I’m personally curious to see if there will be anything extra that customers have to agree on upon giving consent, such as additional contract periods, etc.

    Yay!

Btw, what do unifi means ‘give consent’ ?

Does it mean that they (unifi staff) will call us? Or WE need to call them for upgrade?

Or we need to do it online via their site?

I think we need to call them and apply for the upgrade maybe and they will give a new contract..

      Hi Syaoran,

By giving consent, someone over at TM will be either e-mailing you or (most likely) calling you up to tell you that you are eligible for an upgrade, and would require you to agree to it. You can try to call them up and ask but it’s most likely being done in stages so you might not necessarily get the upgrade as soon as some other people. Hope that helps :)

      Hi Azmi,

Itulah, ikut kata TM, dia orang tengah cuba lebarkan coverage tapi itu je la. Bila nak mai pun TM tak habaq.

Oh man its cool that i am eligible for the upgrade as an existing streamyx user for years but what’s sad is i dont think my place has coverage over 4mbps which really sucks. i hope theyve done some secret upgrades because in Unifi site, it displayed my place eligible for Unifi which is great but TMpoint saying otherwise. one can only hope. suffered long enough with 2010 internet speed

      Hi Idham,

I think in your case, it’s just a matter of when rather than if since it shows that your place is eligible. But keep in mind that even though that mentions July being the time for upgrades, it will be happening gradually so yours may come a bit later than others. Just be a bit more patient and also don’t forget to put pressure on TM for this :P

My only worry is with the net neutrality effect and some isp might take advantage of it.. might need to check the terms and conditions for any hidden throttling.. just like webe.. they like to play tricks on their customers man..

Yes, it’s always best to see if there’s any additional agreements or anything worth noting in the terms and conditions.
