The Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 is a smartwatch with rather classical aesthetics. This is the second generation of smartwatch from Tag Heuer developed in partnership with Intel. While most smartwatch manufacturers opt for the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset specifically designed for wearables, Tag Heuer picks the dual core Intel Atom Z3400-series SoC at the heart of the Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45.

The Intel SoC will be paired with 512MB of LPDDR3 RAM and 4GB of NAND flash storage. The Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 will be complete with WiFi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFS and an array of sensors. However it seems to lack a heartrate sensor which would have made it even better suited for fitness enthusiasts. It will run on Google Android Wear 2.0, which will open up the Connected Modular 45 to a lot of smartwatch functionalities available on the new platform. The display is a 1.39″ 400×400 AMOLED display, protected by sapphire glass. Keeping it powered is a 410 mAh battery which is claimed to provide 25 hours of battery life.

A Tag Heuer timepiece would be incomplete if it wasn’t one that can make you drool with its premium materials and , and the Connected Modular 45 is no different. All that tech will be encased in titanium with a sand-blasted satin finishing with a choice of a variety of materials for the bezels including ceramic, gold, titanium or even diamonds. You can pick straps in different colors, made of the usual rubber or leather, or go for exotic materials like ceramic and titanium. The Connected Modular 45 will be water resistant up to 50 meters, just like the other mechanical watches from the Swiss timepiece designer. In line with the modular name, you can swap out the smartwatch module with a mechanical watch module. Tag Heuer will be offering two mechanical options for now.

The asking price? A cool $1650 (RM7321.88). Mind you, that’s the starting price. If you want to go all out and configure the Connected Modular 45 with diamonds all over its case, you will be looking at somewhere around $7000.

Pokdepinion: The Intel Z3400-series chipset actually has a process advantage compared to the Snapdragon Wear 2100 (22nm vs 28nm), but we can’t really vouch for the power consumption of Intel mobile chipsets, after our experience with them in smartphones.
