The Communications and Multimedia Minister of Malaysia, Gobind Singh Deo, has said that strict actions will be taken to telcos that fail to reduce their broadband prices by the end of this month (August 2018).

Telcos To Reduce Prices Or Be Punished

Previously on the 13th of July, the minister tweeted that he wishes that telcos could come up with a solution on how to reduce broadband prices while also offering increased speeds.

The ministry had initially put 31st of July as the deadline for telcos to revise their broadband prices but there were appeals for the period to be extended.

Till this date, only two companies has revised their prices, with them being Telekom Malaysia Bhd and Maxis Bhd. Gobind said “We’ll take actions against them if they fail to adhere to the MSAP by month end. We are serious about this.”

Recently Maxis revised their prices where you can get 30Mbps for RM89 and 100Mbps for RM129 respectively. They’ve also revealed on plans in increasing speeds in the future.
