Thailand Launch DTBB 2017 – South East Asia’s Biggest Digital And Tech Exhibition

This week, Thailand will be hosting Southeast Asia’s largest digital and tech exhibition, the Digital Thailand Big Bang (DTBB) 2017 from the 21st-24th of September. It focuses on all aspects of digital, especially in developing and accessing investment for Thai digital start-ups and building cybersecurity.

Thailand Launch DTBB 2017 - South East Asia's Biggest Digital And Tech Exhibition 30The event which is held at the IMPACT Convention Center in Muang Thong Thoni, has gathered venture capitalist, stat-up founders, and executives from many of the world’s leading digital technology companies. Start-ups from across Asia, Africe, the US, Europe and host nation Thailand will vie for prizes and funding. Also, companies developing AI, robotics, drone technology will demonstrate products and look to build commercial relationships.

The four day event will also be featuring Malaysian tech start-ups, which includes Runcloud, EasyParcel, BolehCompare, and HelloGold along with Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Center (MaGIC) to showcase their innovative and disruptive tech solutions, across the logistics and finance sectors. Malaysian tech companies and investors have begun to look forward to expanding to Thailand, thanks to the emergence of e-commerce and enterprise services on top of its business-friendly policies.

Thailand Launch DTBB 2017 - South East Asia's Biggest Digital And Tech Exhibition 31The event was all part of the plan set by the Thai government to transform Thailand’s economy from one based on manufacturing to one based on digital technology. It also has a firm backing from their Prime Minister, Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Thailand is currently the third largest e-commerce market in the region, valued at US$ 900 million and is expected to increase 12 fold by 2025. Also sought by the Thai government is to enhance its own digital credentials and aims to be in the Top 50 of the United Nations e-Government rankings. They are also set for a smart city plan, with initiatives set for Phuket, Chang Mai and Khon Khaen.

Pokdepinion: Although the event is hosted by Thailand, i see that it’s a great way for our local Malaysian companies to expand and get their ideas out there.
