The HUAWEI Mate 20 series featured a much faster 40W HUAWEI SuperCharge, which was way quicker than the 22.5W HUAWEI SuperCharge they used to offer with their flagships. However it seems that HUAWEI will revert to the older fast charging standard for the HUAWEI P30 series.

This move is quite surprising since the 40W HUAWEI SuperCharge was necessary to bring HUAWEI up to speed (pun not intended) with more recent fast charging standards such as OPPO’s SuperVOOC and OnePlus’ Warp Charging. Still it is worth noting that 22.5W is still higher than what most Quick Charge 3.0-compliant devices support.

To say that the 40W HUAWEI SuperCharge is unsafe or unreliable would be quite a long shot, as it sports TÜV Safe Fast-Charge System Certification. It would probably wear out the battery faster than you would normally with slower fast charging standards though. Perhaps HUAWEI is intent on keeping the HUAWEI P30 and HUAWEI P30 Pro running optimally longer into their lifecycles?

We would take this rumor with a grain of salt, as HUAWEI is not known to shy away from packing their latest flagships with the best they have in their arsenal. It could be one of the measures to distinguish the niche markets for the HUAWEI Mate series and HUAWEI P series, as the two product lines have become increasingly similar in recent times. Given that the HUAWEI P30 Pro is rumored to feature a screen size similar to the HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro, this probably wouldn’t be too far-fetched.
