Do you think the Xiaomi Mi 8 looks a bit too plain? Or do you find it a bit too pricey for your budget? Well worry not, as Xiaomi has just introduced the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 Lite to satisfy everyone’s needs.

Mi 8 Pro

This device is the much awaited clear variant of the Mi 8! The definition of “clear” is clearly up for debate, as the Mi 8 Pro’s glass back is translucent, but there is an additional panel under it hiding away the actual hardware under the hood. It is still as geeky as it gets though, with the electronics showing under that tinted glass.

The front facade is shared with the Mi 8, but offers a new pressure-sensitive in-display fingerprint scanner. This can be considered a major upgrade, since few flagships even in 2018 feature an under-display fingerprint scanner.

Much of the hardware is similar to the Mi 8, including the Snapdragon 845 chipset, dual 12MP rear camera, 6.21″ FHD+ AMOLED display and an IR facial recognition system. What’s different however is the larger RAM and storage capacity. The Mi 8 Pro comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, and is priced at RM2399. The Mi 8 Pro is only offered at selected authorized Mi Stores, and is not offered online at the moment.

Mi 8 Lite

This is the more affordable offering from the Mi 8 family. The Mi 8 Lite comes in two variants, a 4GB + 64GB configurated priced at RM999, and a 6GB + 128GB variant, priced at RM1299. The latter will only be offered exclusively at select Mi Stores, while the former can be gotten from Mi Malaysia’s official Lazada and Shopee stores.

The glass back is finished with an advanced NCVM process, for a mirror-like gradient finish. It actually looks more interesting than the Mi 8 in Black, for some reason. Keeping things up and running is is the 3350 mAh battery. The camera setup on the rear seems pretty similar to the POCOPHONE F1’s, with a primary 12MP f/1.9 shooter, mated to a 5MP depth sensor.

The Mi 8 Lite is powered by a Snapdragon 660 chipset. Selfie fans would love the 24MP IMX576 front-facing camera featuring Super Pixel technology for better low-light images. The screen on the Mi 8 Lite is a 6.26″ FHD+ LCD panel, a slight downgrade from the AMOLED panels used in the higher end Mi 8 and Mi 8 Pro.

Which of the new Mi 8 are you interested in? Or would you rather opt for the good ol’ standard Mi 8?

Pokdepinion: The Mi 8 Lite actually looks better than the Mi 8. Why must you make us choose between aesthetics and performance, Xiaomi? Why?
