It seems that Xiaomi has taken over Chinese selfie app and smartphone maker Meitu. They will still be called Meitu but Xiaomi will be handling the design, R&D, and sales of the brand, thanks to the take over.

Xiaomi To Come With Selfie-focused Smartphones?

Meitu will still be involved in camera software, so this means that more likely than not, that Xiaomi will be releasing smartphones that are more focused on selfies in the near future.

With the deal, Xiaomi will pay a percentage of phone profits to Meitu, on a per-phone licensing fees basis. Though Meitu has their own smartphones, they seem to be more focused on expanding their social network user base through pre-installations. Despite that, there’s no confirmation that Xiaomi-branded smartphones will be applied and affected by it.

Pokdepinion: Hmm, could OPPO have a proper competition in the selfie segment? It would be interesting to see how that pans out. I just hope that the app will not come out in Xiaomi’s phone, I hate if there’s bloatware in my smartphone. So far, I’m just loving MIUI the way that it is.
