Acer Aspire Vero 2022 Review – CrystalDiskMark

Starting off our benchmark suite with CrystalDiskMark, the storage device in the Acer Aspire Vero 2022 is on the slower side for NVMe SSDs, but it’s not slow by any means. It should be more than enough for most people, especially given the large 1TB capacity.

Acer Aspire Vero 2022 Review – Cinebench R20

Moving on to Cinebench R20, the Intel Core i7-1255U powering the Acer Aspire Vero 2022 shows some great numbers in single core performance, though multi-core performance isn’t really anything to be impressed about. That shouldn’t be a surprise given that it’s more optimized for efficiency rather than performance.

Acer Aspire Vero 2022 Review – Unigine SuperPosition

Then on Unigine SuperPosition’s 4K Optimized benchmark, the Acer Aspire Vero 2022 didn’t fare well but this shouldn’t be a surprise given that it lacks a discrete GPU. It did manage to surpass the 1,000 mark at least, which seems to be norm compared to the ultraportables of previous years.

Acer Aspire Vero 2022 Review – 3DMark Time Spy

A similar pattern can be seen on 3DMark Time Spy, showing a lack of prowess in the graphical department for the Acer Aspire Vero 2022. As you can see, there is a notable difference in score with just an RTX 3050 Ti.

Normally, we would include the PCMark here but for some odd reason, all of the tests in the software refused to run despite redownloads and reinstalls, even after reinstalling Windows. As such, we will be omitting it for this review.

The Good

Acer Aspire Vero 2022 Review – Lid

The Acer Aspire Vero 2022 has an eco-friendly construction as it’s made up of PCR plastic. While it sounds like the build quality could be questionable, the laptop is actually constructed well with a relatively solid build quality. Sure, you have more solidly built laptops with metal chassis out there but this is pretty good for what it is with minimal flexing.

It also has a decent array of ports with two USB-A ports, a Thunderbolt 4 port which doubles as a charging port, an HDMI port, and a combo audio jack. Furthermore, you get a fingerprint reader on the trackpad, which is always a nice thing to have for convenience. The keyboard is certainly comfortable to use with low travel distance and decent tactile feel, as long as you don’t compare it to a mechanical keyboard.

As for the display, it’s far from the best, which I’ll explain at a later section, but I did notice that it’s brighter than its predecessors. Brightness is certainly adequate now so if you plan on using this outdoors, it should be easier for you to see what’s on the screen.

The Bad

Acer Aspire Vero 2022 Review – Rather thick

While I wouldn’t describe the Acer Aspire Vero 2022 as heavy, it certainly is on the thicker side. For a 14-inch laptop, its thickness of 17.9mm does seem more significant than I expected. With that being said, it’s still very easy to bring around but it might be a bother for those who prefer thinner devices.

Another drawback is the lack of an SD card reader. I’d say the amount of USB ports is enough, though another USB-A port would be great but having an SD card reader would have elevated its status noticeably more. If you don’t often spend time transferring data from a memory card or are willing to carry around a USB card reader, then this wouldn’t be a dealbreaker for you.

Acer Aspire Vero 2022 Review – Display

Lastly, while I did mention that the display has good brightness, the colours are certainly lacking. It looks more on the blander side and if you put it side by side with any modern day productivity laptop today, you can easily tell the colour accuracy is rather off. If you’re using this purely for office work and web browsing, this wouldn’t be something to worry about.

Acer Aspire Vero 2022 Review –

The Acer Aspire Vero 2022 shows that recyclable, eco-friendly laptops can actually be good. Sure, it has its drawbacks but it’s certainly capable enough as a daily driver. Do keep in mind that Malaysia will only be getting the 15-inch variant as the 14-inch variant isn’t being brought here. It’s essentially the same, just bigger, with retail prices starting from RM2,599 to RM3,299 for the Intel Core i5 and i7 variants respectively.
