The Razer Viper Ultimate looks essentially the same as the original sans the cable. You can find the USB port right where you expect it to be, which is below the mouse wheel.

As you can see, the Razer Viper Ultimate has an ambidextrous design, perfect for both left and right handed users. There’s a rubber grip that’s identical on both ends. Moreover, there’s two programmable buttons on each side (4 in total) of the mouse. The logo at the back is hidden really well when it is not turned on.

At the base, the design is pretty much the same as the original. They did change to white PTFE mouse feet on each corner making it feel like it can glide to the ends of the world easily. In the upper middle part, you’ll find the 2.4GHz dongle, with the sensor sitting right below it.

Move a little further down the sensor and you’ll find the charging port which is used for the charging dock. Last but not least, the DPI button is at the side, accompanied by the power switch.

Overall, the Razer Viper Ultimate is still the same comfortable mouse as the original but with some changes here and there. It’s designed to be light, fast, and versatile, which I’m sure many gamers will appreciate.

Out of the box, the Razer Viper Ultimate out of the box can be used immediately without issues. If you want to customize the features of the mouse however, you need to install the Razer Synapse software. From there, you can modify a number of settings, including lighting effects and DPI.

As mentioned earlier, the Razer Viper Ultimate uses an ambidextrous design, giving you added flexibility if you like to switch sides. While the versatility is a great point, some users may be prefer a gaming mouse that is more specialized to their strong hand.

Like the original, this mouse is light, even if you decided to use it in wired mode. We can’t say that it’s good or bad as it is subjective. Some may prefer their mouse to have a little bit of weight. If a lightweight mouse is your ideal choice, you’re looking at one of the lightest wireless gaming mouse around.

In terms of its ‘clicky-ness’, you don’t need much pressure when clicking. The Razer Optical Mouse Switch that’s inside provides fast actuation time. This is also helped by the fact that it feels like the travel distance is short, which in return offers speed. The mouse wheel feels solid. Scrolling quickly with it didn’t show any signs of sluggishness, which is great.

By default, the DPI preset for the Razer Viper Ultimate is 400, 800, 1600, 2400, and 3200 DPI (in that order). We decided to take it up a notch for our tracking test, thus setting them at a higher rate. We found that the mouse show signs of jitter when it reaches around 9600.

There’s up to five profiles that you can store in the mouse, where you can swap them to your liking, helpful when you play a whole bunch of different genres of game.

Under normal circumstances, most people won’t go beyond that figure or even near it, especially with how easy it glides thanks to the PTFE mouse feet. But if you are the type of person that does for any reason whatsoever, that’s how it performs.

With the Razer Viper Ultimate, you will be getting a charging dock. Not only can you charge your mouse with it, it can also act as an extender. There’s a slot on top for the USB dongle. Just make sure that you have synced the mouse with your PC / laptop first. As usual with Razer, they’ve also included some Chroma love to it as well, where you can match colors with the Viper Ultimate through Synapse.

Razer has claimed that the Viper Ultimate’s battery can last up to 70 hours. I didn’t test it out continuously for that long (I need my beauty sleep), but rest assured, I never found myself rushing to charge it, even after long periods of usage.

The charging dock is there anyway, so after you’re done with your gaming sessions, you could just simply put it on the dock to charge it up. If it does indeed run out of battery, you can always plug in the cable to the mouse to continue using it. The Speedflex cable, like before, has very minimal drag so it feels like the wire isn’t even there when used.

Razer Viper Ultimate Verdict

Razer Viper Ultimate Wireless Gaming Mouse Review — Best Of Both Worlds 30

The Razer Viper Ultimate did not disappoint. It’s actually a pretty solid performer. It’s hard to find any faults in the mouse, except for one thing; the price. Razer’s asking price is RM569, which is a rather decent price. Should you contemplate on choosing the Viper or Viper Ultimate, add on roughly RM200 and you will be losing the cables as well as the dock, which seems fair enough. If you can afford it, the Razer Viper Ultimate is something that will not disappoint.

For that, I give the Razer Viper Ultimate our Gold Pokdeward.
