If you thought the original Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds+ had boring designs, this might be right up your alley. Completely ignoring conventional earphone designs, Samsung is reportedly exploring an all new design for the upcoming Galaxy Buds, which is codenamed “Bean”.

The codename for these makes a lot more sense than the original Galaxy Buds’ did.The previous generations were codenamed “Popcorn”, although as you might realize, they look nothing like our favorite movie snack. Jokes aside, the Galaxy Buds “Beans” looks to be Samsung’s way of exploring the semi-in-ear design popularized by Apple’s EarPods and later the AirPods, without making the wearer look like they stuck toothbrushes in their ears. Kudos to Samsung for originality.

Samsung will of course be implementing their extensive know-how in designing true wireless stereo (TWS) earphones, and that allegedly includes a dual-driver design and what looks like a port on the outer side to enhance the sound quality. There will also be multiple microphones installed in the Galaxy Buds “Beans” for better quality calls. With that said, sound quality is expected to take a hit without any noise isolation, although Samsung might be able to take a book out of HUAWEI’s book and implement noise cancellation in their open design too.

The Galaxy Buds “Beans” are reportedly currently in the first Engineering Validation Testing (EVT1) process, which means that there might be quite a number of changes to the design before it is finally launched. Or it might just get shelved and never released to market.

If it does make it to production, you can probably expect it to launch alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 later this year, and maybe they will be offered as a pre-order freebie too.
