Want to know how fast are the new 2nd Gen AMD EPYC “Rome” processors? Well, this is how fast they run. With 128 processing threads and boost clocks of up to 3.4 GHz,  a single AMD EPYC 7742 is capable of encoding 8K60 10-bit HDR HEVC videos in real-time.

That’s a pretty huge feat, and it’s enabled by Beamr 5 HEVC software encoder, making full use of all the horsepower the AMD EPYC Rome CPU has to offer. Real time 8K60 video encoding might not have much uses for now, with consumers just only beginning to adopt 8K displays, but it will have it works.

AMD believes that the performance offered by the 2nd Gen AMD EPYC processors will allow for more than just high quality video streaming. The capability to quickly encode videos will definitely come in handy as gamers start to adopt cloud gaming, where real-time encoding is of even more importance.
