Have you been wondering about why the 2nd Generation AMD Ryzen processors didn’t have a Ryzen 7 2800X while the previous generation had a Ryzen 7 1800X? Well it’s because AMD is holding on to their trump card until Intel releases the upcoming 8-core Intel Core i9 9900K and i7 9700K.

The AMD Ryzen 7 2800X has been spotted by the very same Spanish site that published the Core i7 9700K review before it’s even officially announced, so do take this with a liberal dose of sodium chloride. The image of Cinebench’s score sees the AMD Ryzen 7 2800X score more than 2100 points in Cinebench. To put that into perspective, the Ryzen 7 2700X scores around 1800 points.

Now a 10-core CPU from a company that pushes out 32-core CPUs may seem pretty straightforward, but the reality might be more complicated. Each Zen die houses 8 cores, and the Ryzen 7 uses full dies. Unless AMD is making new 10-core dies, they would have to use two dies for one Ryzen 7 2800X.

It isn’t too far-fetched, as the AM4 socket should have the space to accommodate two Ryzen dies. Pricing might be a little trickier though.

Pokdepinion: I can’t wait to see 10-core CPUs in the mainstream desktop processor space! Not like I can utilize them fully anyway, but yay more cores!
