AMD users post improved gaming performance with the Windows 10 Fall Creator’s Update and new Game Mode.

A brighter future for gaming on AMD?

Currently AMD Ryzen offers a lot of cores for CPU intensive workloads, but they have low clock speeds which can bottleneck the fastest graphics cards on the market. We have been seeing progress with updates in selected games, but still Intel offers better gaming performance. The latest Windows 10 Fall Creator’s Update apparently allows AMD Ryzen CPUs to deliver better gaming performance in GTA V, which is not an AMD-optimized game.

AMD Ryzen posts up to 15% gains with Game Mode on!

Reddit user Captain_Jaxparrow runs a Ryzen 5 1600 paired with a RX Vega 56. He has shared some of his performance data, posting charts of his average frame rates before and after the update. Results show a marked improvement after the update. We are seeing gains of around 2-5 fps gains, or around 3-8% improvements here.

He also did some benchmarks with Game Mode on, and we see additional improvements of up to 15% at 1080p. These are really decent numbers coming from Game Mode which was more of a hindrance back in the first Creator’s Update. I do have feeling that these gains may be from the GPU since there really wasn’t much gained at 600p where the CPU would have been the bottleneck.

AMD Piledriver too!

Another user in the same Reddit thread, Freezethaw who runs a FX8320 and a R9 290 managed to score some nice improvements too with Game Mode enabled. His gains were more modest, but did post a similar 15% improvement in one of his benchmark runs, thanks to the Fall Creator’s Update and Game Mode.

We hope to see more games benchmarked on the Fall Creator’s Update and Game Mode to better visualize a trend. We also believe that these gains may also benefit Intel users equally. Let us know if you have any data of the improvements you got from the latest Windows 10 update and new Game Mode!

Pokdepinion: As more cores become more mainstream, it is expected for Windows to improve gaming performance on these CPUs.
