Do you consider AMD’s chart-topping AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X still insufficient for your needs? AMD proffers you the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO. While previously available as an OEM-exclusive, you can now get the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors alone. It won’t be drop-in upgrade for your current AMD Ryzen Threadripper build though.

ASUS WRX80 motherboard

Instead of the AMD sTRX4 socket found in the AMD TRX40 boards that supported the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X, you will need a different AMD sWRX8 socket and the AMD WRX80 chipset. These boards will allow you to use the 8-channel memory and 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes offered by the entire Ryzen Threadripper PRO series. For contrast, sTRX4 supports quad-channel memory and just 88 PCIe 4.0 lanes.

Aside from the support for more memory channels and PCIe lanes, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO lineup also boast AMD PRO Security features like AMD Memory Guard and AMD Secure Processor.

AMD will be offering a small range of processors in the lineup, ranging from the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3945WX with 12 cores, all the way up to the 64-core AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX. All of them tout  the same support for all the goodies, including the 8-channel memory and 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes.

Pokdepinion: Previously, I couldn’t think of a way to use all 64 cores on the Threadripper 3990X. Now I have no idea how to use up all 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes.
