Intel’s 10nm Ice Lake processors were announced earlier this year, starting with the laptop processors. Ice Lake marks the first generation by Intel to feature a different process node after the long streak of Skylake-based 14nm processors. For those who are looking forward to server and workstation Ice Lake-based processors, you will have to wait until Q3 2020.

This information was apparently divulged during an ASUS IoT seminar which revealed that the Ice Lake processors will be supported on the upcoming Whitley platform, which will debut a bit earlier with Cooper Lake CPUs. There will also be a new Socket P+ for the Whitley platform, supporting both Cooper Lake and Ice lake processors.

It seems like the Ice Lake-SP processors will be the first generation from Intel to support up to 64 lanes of PCIe 4.0 goodness. Ice Lake-SP will also bring with it support for Intel’s second-gen Optane DC Persistent Memory. Meanwhile, Cooper Lake-SP will still offer PCIe 3.0, although it does represent an upgrade over Cascade Lake with up to 64 lanes instead of the 48 Cascade Lake offers.

The Ice Lake-SP processors will go up to 38-core, 76-thread configurations, with the platform supporting two sockets for a total of 76 cores. The TDP rating is slated at 270W, which is pretty decent for these amazing core counts.

With a Q3 2020 launch in mind, the Ice Lake-SP processors would probably be facing off against the third-generation EPYC processors, based on the upcoming 7nm+ process at TSMC.
