If you ever wondered why did Intel use odd numbers for their Intel Core i-series naming strategy, maybe it was to give way to this? Well the Intel Core i4-4210M has just appeared on bilibili of all places, in a Lenovo Y430P. The processor is not from the latest series, but it is quite an interesting case nonetheless.

The laptop features the Intel Core i4-4210M, as reported in the BIOS, Windows 10 and also CPU-Z. The video poster who goes by Master Lu even went the distance to remove the soldered CPU from the original mainboard and put it into another laptop, just to proof that he did not tamper with the BIOS just to pull off this stunt.

A commenter shared some interesting insight on the issue, claiming that it might just be an issue with the CPUID of the processor, thus resulting in it being identified erroneously as an Intel Core i4-4210M.

Besides the Intel Core i4-4210M name, all the other specifications of the Intel Core i4-4210M is similar to the Intel Core i5-4210M. That includes a 2.6 GHz base clock and a 3.2 GHz max turbo frequency, which supports the commenter’s theory.

What do you think? Would it be cool if Intel actually filled in the gaps between the Intel Core i3 and Core i5 processors with a Core i4 series? I am pretty sure BMW enthusiasts would be quite interested.
