After years of dragging their feet, Intel appears to have successfully developed a worthy iGPU for their upcoming 11th Gen Intel Core processors. The upcoming Tiger Lake processors will pack the Gen11 graphics, and it seems that the Intel Core i7-1165G7 will sport an iGPU faster than the Radeon Vega GPUs in the latest AMD Ryzen 4000 Mobile processors.

Previously the Tiger Lake processors were shown running Battlefield 5 at around 30 FPS, which is quite an impressive feat for an integrated graphics solution. But now the Intel Core i7-1165G7 have been spotted on 3DMark by @TUM_APISAK, outperforming the AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS by an impressive 16% in 3DMark Time Spy. Compared against the Ryzen 7 4800U, the Core i7-1165G7’s GPU is nearly 20% faster.

CPU performance is rather lackluster, but that’s also because it comes with four less cores. The Intel Core i7-1165G7 packs only four cores, while the AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS and Ryzen 7 4800U pack eight cores apiece. Still, I would say that Intel manages to keep up rather well, with a CPU Score of 5304.

Another detail gleaned from the leak would be the rather high 4.7 GHz boost clocks that the Intel Core i7-1165G7 is running at. It seems like Intel has finally managed to finetune their 10nm process to allow for higher boost clocks. Ice Lake offered impressive IPC with the new Sunny Cove core architecture, but it was hobbled by very low boost clocks. Intel is expected to offer the Intel Core i7-1165G7 as a 28W TDP part, which might mean it won’t make its way to the ultraportable laptops.

The Tiger Lake generation might be Intel’s most interesting mobile processors yet. I mean, what we usually know about how AMD having the advantage in terms of their GPU performance while Intel boasts of better CPU performance is quite literally turned on its head here. I am really interested to see how the Tiger Lake processors turn out when they finally launch in laptops later this year.

Pokdepinion: Wow, Intel does have some fight in them. Go Intel go!
