The AMD Ryzen 9 3900X’s 105W TDP a bit too high for your taste? AMD has just announced their latest lineup of AMD Ryzen PRO 3000 series processors for desktops. While most of the parts are pretty similar to their non-PRO variants, the Ryzen 9 3900 is new.

The 2nd Generation AMD Ryzen PRO processors were only introduced back in April, so this is quite early for the PRO series to popup. Not really surprising though given how much of a performance leap that the Zen 2 architecture brings to the table.

For the Zen 2 processors, we will be looking at three models, the Ryzen 9 PRO 3900, the Ryzen 7 PRO 3700 and Ryzen 5 PRO 3600. The Ryzen 7 part is similar to the non-PRO Ryzen 7 3700X, while the Ryzen 5 PRO 3600 shares its specs with the Ryzen 5 3600.

Ryzen 5 PRO 36006C/12T4.2 / 3.6 GHz35MB65W

The advantage of the AMD Ryzen PRO processors lie in their implementation of AMD GuardMI, protecting users with AMD Memory Guard to maintain security with RAM encryption and AMD Secure Boot to prevent threats from sneaking in during the boot process.

AMD also updated the list of GPU-toting AMD Ryzen PRO and AMD Athlon PRO processors.

Athlon PRO 300GE2C/4T3 CUs3.4 GHz5MB35W

The AMD Ryzen PRO and Athlon PRO desktop processors with Radeon Vega graphics are still based on the older 12nm manufacturing process, instead of the 7nm process used by the 3rd Generation AMD Ryzen processors.

AMD didn’t reveal any pricing yet, as these processors are probably intended for AMD’s OEM partners to deliver improved security. They have already listed a few HP EliteDesk designs and Lenovo ThinkCenter desktops which will feature the Ryzen PRO processors.

Meanwhile, we might see a Ryzen 9 3900 quietly sneak onto markets, probably along with the Ryzen 9 3950X which will launch later in November.
