Get ready to see some big, fast displays from your favorite gaming brand soon. AU Optronics (AUO) has just announced their latest 85-inch 4K 240Hz LCD panel. AUO doesn’t sell their panels to consumers, and instead supplies their panels to your favorite brands like ASUS or Sony. Details are pretty sparse, but HEXUS managed to glean several key specifications about the display.

As 4K 240Hz is nigh unachievable in most games even with the likes of the GeForce RTX 3090, the display panel thankfully supports variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. Its range is still unknown though. Gamut coverage will apparently be a good 96% DCI-P3. Other claims include ultra-high contrast ratio and ultra-high dynamic range.

Xiaomi Mi TV Master 77 OLED gaming xbox support

We will most probably see this 85-inch 4K 240Hz panel from AUO in displays marketed under the NVIDIA Big Format Gaming Display (BFGD) program, or at least be marketed towards PC gamers. Current-gen consoles aren’t capable of achieving 240FPS yet. The latest TV to tout NVIDIA G-SYNC is the bespoke Xiaomi Mi TV Master 77-inch OLED, so there might be life yet in the relatively quiet NVIDIA BFGD program.

In any case, AUO’s 85-inch 4K 240Hz panel will probably cost an arm and a leg and some more, and availability is still unknown. If you are interested, keep an eye out for upcoming product launches from your favorite TV/gaming display brand.
