AMD Radeon RX 670 and RX 680 are just around the corner

It seems like AMD is going to keep reusing the Polaris architecture which made the mid-range Radeon RX 400-series and Radeon RX 500-series GPU, but refreshes it with a process shrink for the Radeon RX 600-series GPUs. The upcoming Radeon RX 600-series GPUs are going to be manufactured on the 12nm manufacturing process.

The new Radeon RX 600-series are purportedly launching very soon, as early as mid-October. The new GPUs are apparently going to be codenamed Polaris 30, and the first GPU from the new series will be the Radeon RX 670. The Radeon RX 680 is expected to arrive later, sometime in November.

The Radeon RX 670 is expected to still feature 2048 SP, and the Radeon RX 680 expected to feature 2304 SP, just like their predecessors. However thanks to the die shrink, AMD should be able to clock them higher than ever before without having to deal with excessive power consumption or heat output.

Without new a new GPU architecture, AMD will still be facing stiff competition from the new-cheaper NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10-series which still have faster designs. For AMD fans who want more performance, they will have to wait until the Vega 20 or Navi cards roll out on the 7nm process.

Pokdepinion: The only reason to get these cards are if AMD manages to produce them for cheaper.
