Browse any tech site today, you will find lots of news and reviews on the new Nvidia GTX 980 Ti. Meanwhile, at Pokde.net, we are still waiting for someone send us a sample to review. Waiting and waiting… With a price tag of just USD 650 (around RM2400) this card is literally insane in gaming performance. I’ve read a lot of gaming reviews and it’s still on par with the much pricier Titan X, not just in game benchmarks but also in CUDA benchmarks we can say the difference is negligible.

The clear difference between the GTX 980Ti and Titan X is the number of CUDA cores which made me assume that the GTX 980Ti will lose to the Titan X when it comes to CUDA applications, but it does not. You can check Tomshardware‘s review page that show it’s almost the same.

We might wonder why the GTX 980 Ti exists, in my opinion NVIDIA just want to fill the gap between the Titan X and GTX 980. With incoming rival from AMD which are (FINALLY) prepared to announced their new Fiji XT with HBM 1.0 technology after a long delay. With a price tag of only RM2400, it’s packed with 6GB of VRAM, good enough for you to play games at 4K resolution (with AA disabled for some games). This maybe one way NVIDIA is planning to counter the rumored Radeon Fury.

Pokdepinion : This June we will witness another GPU price war from both NVIDIA and AMD. For these few days, the GTX 980Ti is the best card for your money if you want to play on 4K resolution, but you might want to wait and read about AMD’s upcoming Fiji GPU’s performance and pricing. For GTX Titan X owner, you should not be sad about this, even though GTX 980Ti is on par with a GTX Titan X in terms of performance, but in a scenario of 4K gaming with AA, I believe the 6GB of a GTX 980 Ti is insufficient for all the frame buffer, thus the 12GB GTX Titan X will still be the king for some time.
