AMD literally doesn’t have any new cards on the decks. They are planning a die shrink of the AMD Polaris GPUs to deliver better performance without a newer architecture and call it a day. It seems like NVIDIA is going to respond, but not with their new Turing GPUs. They are going to slap faster RAM on the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB.

The GeForce GTX 1060 6GB has already seen an upgrade from 8 Gbps GDDR5 to 9 Gbps GDDR5. TweakTown spotted a new GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X, with the memory running at 10 Gbps, increasing the memory bandwidth to 240GB/s. How much of a difference in terms of gaming performance the faster memory will make remains to be seen.

The card can currently be gotten from NVIDIA’s website, priced at $299 for the Founders Edition. NVIDIA is definitely getting lazy here, but how can we blame them when they have nothing to compete against? The GeForce GTX 1060 6GB has been trading blows with the Radeon RX 480 and RX 580 GPUs, so this bump in memory speed should give the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDRR5X the edge it needs to compete with the upcoming Radeon RX 590.

When these cards will arrive at our shores are still unknown. The pricing should still be pretty similar, but whether the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5X will be offered by AIBs is still unknown.

Pokdepinion: Not sure whether the GeForce GTX 1060 is starved on memory bandwidth. But if it is, the faster memory will give it nice gains.
