The 11th Gen Intel Core Rocket Lake processors use the same LGA1200 socket as the 10th Gen Intel Core Comet Lake processors, but apparently not all LGA1200 motherboards will support the next-gen processors. Intel has officially confirmed that the Intel H410 and B460 motherboards will not work with the 11th Gen Intel Core desktop processors.

Instead, you will have to upgrade to new Intel H510 and B560 motherboards if you want to use the Rocket Lake processors without splurging on the motherboard. Or maybe switch to a Intel Z490 or H470 motherboard, which will require a BIOS update to support the upcoming processors.

Intel B560 H510 chipset features

As it stands, the Intel B560 chipset will now support additional PCIe lanes from the CPU to handle a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. There’s also integrated WiFi 6 AX201, USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 for faster connectivity and also memory overclocking, all of which which were not available on the Intel B460 chipset. The Intel H510 also comes with integrated WiFi.

There might be more reasons to it like the fact that the lower-end Intel H410 and B460 motherboards not designed to take advantage of the PCIe 4.0 bandwidth available with the 11th Gen Intel Core desktop processors.

Or maybe the power delivery system might not be up to the task of handling the Rocket Lake processors. Well, we might just see enthusiasts reverse engineer the Intel H410 and B460 motherboards to work with the 11th Gen Intel Core processors.

Pokdepinion: Well I don’t think that many Intel H410 or B460 users will make the jump from a 10th Gen Intel Core to the 11th Gen processor? Still, the option would have been nice…
