Dell UltraSharp Webcam Fuses AI and DSLR Technology In a Compact Form

With most people still working from home and there being a rise in digital work due to the pandemic, there has been a significant increase for webcam demand. To cater to the increased demand, Dell has launched a new webcam that is said to bring AI and DSLR technology in a compact form, and it’s the Dell UltraSharp Webcam.

The Dell UltraSharp Webcam is a USB-C webcam using the 4K Sony STARVIS CMOS sensor and multi-element lens that can capture up to 4K 30FPS. The smoother 60FPS option is available for Full HD and 720p HD resolutions. HDR will be available in all resolutions so you don’t have to worry about limiting yourself there. As for viewing angle, you can choose between 65°, 78°, and 90°.

For those looking for some versatility with their webcam, you can mount the Dell UltraSharp Monitor on your monitor or on a tripod. There is a quick release function so you can easily switch webcam positions quickly and with ease.

One of the things that make the Dell UltraSharp Webcam interesting is its AI capabilities. We got a live demonstration of the AI Auto Framing feature, which shows the webcam framing the video feed accordingly with where the user is, ensuring that they almost always remain centered. I’m sure there are limitations to this feature but we’ll have to test it ourselves to find out.

For those of you looking for extra customization options, it appears that the Dell UltraSharp Webcam will be lacking integration with a lot of popular external software like OBS Studio. This means that if you want to adjust the webcam settings, you will have to do so using the official Dell software only.

It’s worth noting that the Dell UltraSharp Webcam doesn’t have a built-in microphone. Dell cited that there is only so much space that you can play with inside a webcam to keep it compact, and they found that most built-in microphones in webcams tend to be of subpar quality based on customer feedback. As such, they chose to omit it completely.

The Dell UltraSharp Webcam will have a retail price of USD $199 / RM 1,112 and can be purchased now on the official Dell website.

Pokdepinion: Given the use of the Sony STARVIS, it’s natural to compare this to the likes of the Razer Kiyo Pro. It looks promising and would like to see how truly reliable the AI features are. If it does well, I foresee it serving digital content creators well moving forward.
