Malaysians Might Enjoy Better Internet Speeds Soon
Malaysia has seen quite an interesting spectacle in recent times and now, we might be seeing something positive come off from that. The newly appointed Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Minister, Gobind Singh Deo, mentioned about how the ministry will be focusing on improving Malaysia’s internet speed in the days to come.
To be precise, he mentioned about doubling the country’s speed, which is a huge increase. Here’s what he said at the press conference on his first day of work as the new minister:
Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Minister, Gobind Singh, said:
We are looking into doubling the speed of internet broadband services, if possible. There were many complaints last year, and we are hoping to improve in that area.
For others (area of improvements), we will relook the necessity of continuing them. I will be calling separate press conferences for those in the next few weeks.
Aside from that, Gobind Singh did mention about other matters in the press conference, such as reviewing the Anti-Fake News Bill 2018, as well as updating some “outdated” laws in order to be more suitable for today’s technologically-advanced world.
While there was no mention of exactly when we can expect the improved speeds to pop up, or how the upgrades will be rolling out for everyone in Malaysia. Any form of changes to pricing were also not mentioned but this is most likely something that the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) will be dealing with.

Pokdepinion: Hey, who’s gonna say no to faster internet speeds, am I right? Maybe we’ll get proper gigabit internet speeds soon. Imagine downloading games on Steam or streaming 4K content on Netflix or YouTube that will only take seconds to load. That would be the dream… if it’s doesn’t kill our wallets.
