MCMC Says Price Reduction for Fixed Broadband in Malaysia Still On Track

We’ve known for a while about the Mandatory Standard on Access Pricing (MSAP) policy that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been wanting to implement for a while now. While we have seen changes in terms of pricing as of late, there are still people left out of the loop and still paying a high price for fixed broadband. Now, we get to hear a bit of update on it.

MCMC has released a media statement with regards to the price reduction for fixed broadband internet in Malaysia, related to the new access agreements that telcos in Malaysia needed to submit by end of September 2018.

According to MCMC, all the key internet service providers (ISPs) have reached agreements that will directly result in reduced prices for fixed broadband. This includes, TM, Maxis, Celcom, and TIME. The price reduction for fixed broadband will still take place by the end of 2018.

It was also pointed out that there are some ISPs who have already lowered prices as well as improved the speed of their fixed broadband plans. Unfortunately, they did not reveal any specifics on the price reduction that the providers have agreed on.

MCMC did mention that they will be making more announcements very soon, which is most likely why some of the specifics were left out. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Pokdepinion: Well, hopefully we won’t end up hearing some funny business about the providers not being able to cut down prices and stuff for whatever reason moving forward. I personally have not yet received my new internet plan yet.
